00:00 lucky enough to have johnny depp on the show.
00:02 I know.
00:03 He was here not so long ago performing with a band, a favorite of his and it was great.
00:07 And he's here tonight about "the lone ranger" which I have seen by the way.
00:11 You have seen "the lone ranger"
00:12 Yes, and as a child i would watch "the lone ranger," the tv version of it.
00:16 And it was preceded by a radio version, I think, and now we have a film about the lone ranger.
00:22 I think there have been other films, but he is tonto.
00:25 And I absolutely love johnny depp as tonto.
00:28 Great. Fantastic.
00:29 I'm looking forward to seeing it.
00:31 Thank you very much.
00:37 I think we have a photo of johnny depp as tonto.
00:41 I would like to see that.
00:42 Look at that.
00:47 (Applause) ....cool.
00:51 This is a different tonto than we're-- and I think you'll find when you see the film that tonto's life accurately mirrored the existence of native americans in this country. Which as we know doesn't really have a happy ending.
01:09 It's not a happy story. And tonto is a man who has risen above adversity.
01:15 This is going to be a great movie. I think it is.
01:21 All right, ladies and gentlemen, our first guest tonight say three-time academy award nominated actor.
01:27 How about that. Pretty good.
01:35 And if you want some real non-robot fun at the movies this summer, non-zombie fun at the movies this summer, you should go see "the lone ranger" starring johnny depp as tonto, IT OPENS JULY 3rd.
Ladie s and gentlemen, the one, the only, johnny depp. Here we go.
02:22 all I really want to talk about is tonto, but first of all, have you had your birthday?
02:28 Are you getting ready to have your birthday, how old are you?
02:30 I've had my birthday.
02:31 And you are?
02:31 They tell me I'm 50.
02:33 50 Years old. Yeah.
02:40 Well, you look great, you look youthful. And more importantly you look cool. Thank you. Thank you very much.
02:49 And being 50, supposed to be a landmark, but having gone through that myself, it doesn't really mean anything, does it?
02:58 Does it mean anything to you?
02:59 Absolutely nothing, no.
03:01 no, it's just another decade gone by. The only, maybe, the thing that one can look forward to when you reach 50 is a future that's slightly more irresponsible.
03:15 More irresponsible? More irresponsible.
03:18 People will allow that you because you're older?
03:21 ..Well, they accommodate you at times, you know?
03:28 One day I'll be able to wear my pants up to here.
03:36 and it's okay.
03:39 Well, one day, what about today!
03:43 I might as well start now. Yeah. Excuse me a minute.
03:46 Now other cultures revere old age. I'm not sure that applies here in the united states.
03:53 You've been to miami recently? Yeah.
03:57 Everybody my age has a story about oh, mom what are we going do with mom? Oh, dad what are we going to do with dad? And nobody really wants that project. It's sort of sad, isn't it?
04:06 Keep them drunk.
04:09 I would say.
04:11 Keep the old folks drunk.
04:12 Keep them loaded.
04:14 Now you talk about being more irresponsible as you grow older.
Was t here a time in your life when you were just crazily irresponsible.
04:21 Yeah.
04:23 .. when I was...
04:26 Well, younger.
04:29 because I'm incredibly responsible now.
04:33 But when you say irresponsible, police involved?
04:36 At times, yeah.
04:39 I did get a few policeman here and there, and I was given a tour of custody suites and such.
04:46 Custody suites?
04:47 Now it is none of my business, do you mind if I ask what the infraction was, the violation?
04:53 I made a gaggle of paparazzi walk backyards down a london street with a plank of wood in my hand.
05:01 Oh my god, paul, did you hear this?
05:04 I'm shocked at johnny. I can't believe it.
05:07 No, no, this is wonderful.
05:08 He wouldn't do that, he wouldn't do that.
05:11 You took after them like a 2 x 4 and backed them off down an alley.
05:14 Yeah, it was more like a 4x4.
05:18 Oh now I'm really shocked.
05:20 I found it though, I wasn't carrying it.
05:21 Oh, okay, found it.
05:23 Now what were you charged with, for the love of god?
05:26 .. attempted assault, assault, you know, various, you know, infractions that I didn't quite understand at the time.
05:34 Now I know this is irresponsible of me but, nice going. Thanks, man.
05:40 Wow.
05:43 It had to be done.
05:45 You had to take the law into your own hands? Somebody had to do it.
05:50 Let's talk a little bit about the kiddies.
05:52 I remember years ago before i had my son, you described i think one of your kids at the time, I think about three years olds as like living with a drunk.
06:01 Yeah.
06:03 Have they gone beyond the drunken behavior stage?
06:06 They've gone beyond the tiny drunk stage.
06:10 and they've entered into a whole new arena.
06:15 My boy jack is 11.
06:18 Very, you know, just simple, low key.
06:21 Solid.
06:22 Solid, you know, one word text. Yep, no, same. You know, I got it.
06:30 and that's the boy.
06:33 And then my girl, my daughter lily-rose is now 14.
06:38 .. yeah, 14, teenager.
06:45 Beyond the age difference, is there behavioral difference?
06:50 Well, I mean at our very base I think men are relatively, i mean we are simpletons, really. I mean we really are.
07:00 and girls are infinitely more complicated, brilliant and you know, they know how to maneuver and you know, sort of manipulate dad to the umpteenth degree.
07:14 Having said that are you in a good space with your daughter, things good now? Oh, wonderful, yeah.
07:21 No, perfect.
07:22 Surprises along the way though?
07:24 You know, the things, the father fears, some greasy little horror showing up at your door.
07:32 Some greasy little horror showing up, yeah.
07:41 Yeah, yeah, that's right.
07:44 We'll be right back here with johnny depp, ladies and gentlemen.
